Co-Executive Director Speech for SisterWeb's 5th Year Birthday Party & Fundraiser, "Honoring Roots, Flourishing Futures."

"Greetings and Salutations,

Wow, what a journey it's been. Today, we celebrate five incredible years of lifting up our Black women, our families, and our community right here in San Francisco. From the very beginning, our mission has been crystal clear: to provide support, care, and empowerment through our own Black doulas who understand, who relate, and who are committed to honoring our roots while nurturing our flourishing futures. Whilst dismantling racist systems, strengthening community resilience, and advancing economic justice for birthing people and doulas.

Five years ago, we saw a need—saw that our Black sisters needed doulas who not only shared their skin but also their stories, their struggles, and their dreams. So we stepped up, built this organization from the ground up, and created a space where our culture and our voices are at the heart of every service we provide.

Today, we look back with pride at the countless lives we've touched. We've walked alongside so many families, celebrated births, comforted in moments of uncertainty, and provided a bridge to resources and support that are often overlooked. Our doulas have been more than guides—they’ve been advocates, friends, and pillars of strength.

But it's not just about looking back; it's about looking forward. We're not just honoring our history—we're creating a future where Black women’s experiences are valued, where our health and well-being are prioritized, and where our community continues to thrive.

You’ve seen us grow. You’ve seen the impact of our work and the change we've brought to this city. But we’re not done yet. We’re just getting started. The vision is clear: to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and continue to uplift every Black woman who walks through our doors.

To our doulas, to our families, and to everyone who’s supported us along the way—thank you. Here’s to the next five years and beyond. Let’s keep honoring our roots and flourishing into the future together.
